The tenant argued that the landlord referred to the company by their own name several times, and should be partially liable. The landlord requested his personal name be struck from proceedings arguing that his LLC is liable, not the landlord personally. The court argument was whether or not the tenant filed suit within the statute of limitations, and if the landlord is personally liable. The tenant lost income because of the failed promise. The suit was based on the tenant’s dependability on the extension of the lease. The tenants made significant improvements to the building, which were never reimbursed by the landlord. The landlord evicted the tenant and they filed a suit. The parties had made promises to each other that would extend the lease, but never actually done so. They go everywhere with her like a mom who insists that her 12-year-old hold her hand at the crosswalk. This mom lives in constant fear of danger for her kids. If they make it to weaning in good condition by some miracle, I’m satisfied. Needless to say, I’m not a fan of this type of mothering, but I’m not concerned about the kids’ emotional scarring. And yet, every now and then a mom like this will suddenly lift her head, stand up, and look around with a panicked expression on her face as if to say, “Oh my gosh, I think I forgot something important!” She will bellow with the loudest, most pathetic cry a goat can make as she sounds the alarm about her missing kids, “This cruel world full of danger and peril has separated me, a loving and model mother, from my baaaaabies! Woe is me!” This mom might spend the whole day partying with the other does, only feeding her kids if they have the initiative to track her down on their own. I’ve observed many goat moms that are marginal caregivers at best, sometimes neglecting one kid from their litter, or failing to encourage their kids to feed, or leaving them to fend for themselves in a storm while they beeline it for the shed. They’re reluctant to make the sacrifices that motherhood demands, yet are melodramatic in their affection for their kids. ![]() Sometimes goat moms act like a single, teenage mother. More than once in our commercial targeted grazing system we’ve had to return to a property to pick up kids that slept under a log through the loading of the entire herd onto a trailer and missed the bus, their mom none the wiser. If it’s not time to feed her kids when you try to move the herd, she’ll just go with the flow - even if the flow takes her to a completely different property. And, she’s a problem in a grazing system that involves lots of pasture rotations or moves by trailer. She’s a good mom but she’s a bit naive about the world around her, and predation and accidents surely happen more often to her kids than to those of some other mom types (though I can’t document that). When mom returns to that spot, she will call out and the kids will return to their agreed upon meeting place. ![]() But as they get older and more adventurous, the kids will wander off - usually together - potentially getting into all sorts of trouble. They are on their own until dinner time.īrand new kids will stay exactly in that spot, too, sleeping until mom returns. Until then, the kids will appear to be abandoned. She knows exactly where she left her kids and will return to that place with incredible precision in a few hours when she’s decided it’s feeding time. Within hours of birth, assuming the kids are cleaned up and well fed, this kind of mom stashes her kids in a corner, or under a log, or in a patch of grass and wanders off on her own to graze and drink and lounge with the other adults. A little time among the herd in our close quarters kidding system is all that’s necessary to see the differences, and the pros and cons of each. One need not spend days upon days watching from a blind with binoculars to parse out subtle differences between mother goat styles. The styles are several and distinct, and surprisingly observable. ![]() We finished kidding (having baby goats) at our farm about a month ago, and I had my annual refresher in the variety of mothering styles exhibited by our goat moms. ![]() 8/18/2023 0 Comments Miniature rose sweet sunblaze![]() ![]() Note that when grown in a container, it may not perform exactly as indicated on the tag - this is to be expected.
